As with most Samsung’s in this price range, the H6400 has pretty good but not error free picture quality. The TV has the ability to produce accurate black levels right out of the box. Even very dark scenes render well in most instances. We did notice minor instances of light leakage occasionally – but nothing serious enough to matter to anyone but the most nitpicky viewers. The images on screen look appropriately bright and color saturation is accurate without the “cartoonish” look and feel that accompanies some TV’s. Color Contrast performance is above average out of the box with minor flaws noticeable in “Movie” mode but with color temperature calibration and manipulating display settings we were able to improve contrast sufficiently to satisfy the most critical eye.
While the sound quality of the UA48H6400AR is not as impressive as the Samsung's in the 7 series, it is still adequate for day to day cable viewing. The TV comes equipped with 2 x 10 watt speakers but lacks any woofers affecting sound at lower frequencies . For a more authentic and complete sound experience, we'd recommend investing in a higher end soundbars or more sophisticated speakers.
The H6400 has excellent video processing. The TV does a great job displaying not only high definition content but standard definition content scales well and also looks pretty top notch. The motion performance on the UAH6400 is amazing with hardly a hint of blur when viewing fast action sequences . However, the out of the box settings did not really work for us when viewing 3D content and the viewing experience was sub-par. Once we tweaked the picture and motion settings, 3D display performance was acceptable and judder free. 3D content on the H6400 is best viewed in rooms with minimal light as images appear sharper and brighter. The viewing angles on this TV are not impressive. The colors begin to fade rapidly at off center viewing angles. As with most high end Samsungs, the H6400 has specific modes to appeal to movie and sports enthusiasts and gamers. The input lag when you opt for game mode is barely noticeable and the gaming experience when playing fast action video games is fairly enjoyable.
Input and Output
The H6400 has generous connectivity options that will allow you to make this TV the centerpiece of your multimedia entertainment. The UAH6400AR comes equipped with 4 HDMI ports, 3 USB ports, wired and wireless ethernet, audio jacks, composite and component ports. You are thus able to stream content from your mobile devices and internet with relative ease.
The UAH6400AR is a good looking TV with a thin black plastic bezel and a X shaped stand allowing the TV to swivel. While the TV looks slim and modern for a TV using direct backlighting, it is by no means the slimmer or lighter than edge lit LED's. Once the TV is switched on, the Smart TV interface itself is fairly user friendly and intuitive. Navigating between apps is seamless and quick aided by the touchpad based remote control. Motion control based voice and gesture command used to manipulate the TV are a nifty feature but worked with a few hiccups. Please be aware that there is small learning curve involved to be able to use these.
The UAH6400AR is part of Samsung’s higher selling 6 series. It is a flat screen 1080P LED 3D TV aimed at the medium to high end consumer. For the price, you get a TV that is packed with nifty “smart” features, above average picture quality, excellent black levels and great motion processing. The audio quality and viewing angles are average for a TV at this price range.
We examined the UA75H6400AR for the purpose of this review, but this review should also apply to all H6400 TV's of various screen sizes namely UA48H6400AR, UA55H6400AR and UA65H6400AR which share the same technical specs.
