We observed that the black level and in turn contrast ratio in Samsung’s UA48H5500AR were excellent in a dark room while color was a tad bit over saturated under bright light like in many Samsung LED TVs. The deep contrast exhibits rich image details. However, If the room has too many windows or lights, then blinds or curtains may need to be put up on the windows to appreciate the fine details of the images. The out of the box color settings need to be manipulated to give the accurate colors. The black screens were fairly uniform with no clouding or flash light issue. A minor blurring was visible at the edges due to the narrower viewing angle.
We will rate the picture quality as high for this budget TV.
The 48H5500AR has two speakers with a sound output of 10W each. This audio output is sufficient for daily viewing as it has DTS sound and auto volume leveller as well.
UA48H5500AR is a television that is very good daily viewing of HD, SD, 2D content. This full HD LED television from Samsung with a resolution of 1920 X 1080 has a clear motion rate of 100 with a HyperReal Engine picture processor. We observed the motion blur as the biggest flaw in H5500. The lag is significant even in the game mode so this is not the television for you if you are an avid gamer. The motion blur was not visible for movies or TV shows and regular viewing remains unaffected.
Input and Output
The side input consists of 2 HDMI ports, 2 USB ports and 1 RF IN while the connectivity options placed on the back face of UA48H5500AR are 1 HDMI, 1 Component IN, 1 Composite IN, 1 Digital Audio Optical Out, 1 Analog Audio Out, 1 Ethernet and WiFi direct. The input-output options on this TV are fairly standard for the cost.
The Samsung UA48H5500AR has a beautiful sleek design with borders of just 1.2 cm and thickness of 4.7 cm only. The stand is a square mold that does not swivel. This light weight beautifully designed television weighs just 4 kg with the stand. The dimension of this 48” full HD LED television is 721.4 X 465.1 X 163.4 mm with the stand. The TV can be wall mounted as well, which will add elegance to the room where it is put up.
Samsung’s UA48H5500AR has a smart TV platform with a lot of apps. It has face recognition ability for security purposes and motion control interaction for the convenience of the user. By clicking the Smart Hub button on the remote, the main interface pops up on the screen. From the toolbar you can easily access the Samsung Apps. Samsung gives you a large selection of apps that you can browse by category or as per popularity.
The different categories for easy access and interaction are split into movies & TV shows, multimedia, flask disk and videos. Movies can be rented if required. The Multimedia tab puts all the feeds from YouTube and similar apps together. Flask disk lets you access all the USB content almost instantly. Videos option includes Netflix (unavailable in a lot of markets), YouTube and other such apps as well.
We observed that the Web browser when accessed on 48H5500 is very slow, especially for “heavier” websites where it takes much longer to load. Scrolling is found to be a bit jerky, but much better than other televisions of this range. The basic remote requires typing in with the arrow keys. This can becomes quite tedious as compared to using the remote with touch pad.
The remote that comes with H5500 serves the basic functions, but is not very helpful when browsing the web. It has a Smart Hub button which gets you the menu on the screen. The user has to navigate with the arrow keys to access the different functions on H5500. If you plan to use a lot of the smart TV features, we suggest you buy the Smart remote that is available with the higher models.
Samsung’s H5500 has a load of other additional features. These include a clean digital view, auto channel search, clock and timer, triple protector and Golden Bridge interface to list a few features. The basic remote control comes with batteries. Both the stands that is the mini wall mount support and Vesa wall mount support are a part of the packing so the user has the option to choose as per the interior of the room where UA48H5500AR is going to be put up.
Overall we will rate Samsung’s UA48H5500AR at 7 on a scale of 10. The picture quality is excellent in dim and well lit rooms for the price that one pays for this television. The TV is loaded with all the smart features. The audio output is sufficient for daily viewing though you can upgrade it by utilizing the multiple connectivity options. The Smart interface can be navigated easily though we suggest that you upgrade to the Smart Remote control that comes with higher models. Using the Remote that is provided with this TV makes interaction pretty slow as arrow keys have to be used for navigation. Do not buy H5500 if you are a regular gamer as there is a significant motion lag/blur observed when gaming. For TV shows and movies the video is absolutely fine.
