CRTs produce the very best color and gray-scale and are the reference standard for all professional calibrations. They have a perfectly smooth gray-scale with an infinite number of intensity levels. Other display technologies are expected to reproduce the natural power-law Gamma curve of a CRT, but can only do so approximately.


LCD are thinner and lighter and draw much less power than cathode ray tubes (CRTs). Additionally, LCD TVs offer many more benefits over the older technology used like large screen sizes, sharp image resolution, increased contrast, lighter weight designs, and a space-saving design.


The LCD technology is the same in the cathode fluorescent lamp lit TVs and the LED lit TVs, but the LED lighting of the picture results in a sharper picture, more energy efficient using about 40% less electricity than a standard LCD TV, the LED backlighting system has no delay or warm up time, and the LED lit TVs are much thinner than the traditional LCD or plasma TVs.


OLED TV will be the most energy efficient TV technology ever produced. It takes hardly any power to energize the organic light emitting molecules located in the emissive layer of the substrate. Due to superior technological efficiencies in manipulating lighter, simpler carbon based material, generating deeper blacks, brighter whites and all the gray scales in between should be a great strength of OLED.


Plasma technology has numerous advantages over LCDs and CRTs. First of all, the choice of scintillators for plasma TVs allows richer colors in a wider range. The chromatic range of plasma screens is much broader than for CRT television sets.


The effect of this is that if you view the screen from an angle, you will see distorted colors and blurring. In an IPS panel, the crystals move parallel to the screen, and the light exists in more of a coherent beam. When you view an IPS screen from any angle, the image quality will remain consistent.

The plasma technology provides a picture with better brightness and contrast, especially with screens larger than fifty inches. Plasma also allows for wider screens and faster refresh rates.

This means the television has 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels tall. The 1080p number refers to the number of lines of the screen. Most televisions currently have a resolution of 1080p (also referred to as Full HD).

1366 x 768 [WXGA]

There are 2 resolutions for HD broadcasts 1) 720p = resolution of 1280 x720 pixels ~ 1 megapixel 2) 1080i -= resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels ~ 2 megapixels There is no 3rd resolution of 1366 x 768 in any HD source. A 1366 x 768 image is ALWAYS SCALED
It is all about firmware scaling engine ( video processing chips ) in the display. A huge amount of processing has to happen to make 720 into 768 or 1080 down to 768. In a Good display with a great processing chipset, the 1080 incoming resoultion is 2 times what the display can show, and since it has twice the information it needs, the 1366 display can really do a great job. Some displays do a fantastic job of resizing and de-interlacing. Some 1366 displays do such a fuzzy job of scaling that the image seems about the same as regular TV, just bigger and wider, not Higher in Definition.

This is how the system restores detail lost in compression and transmission.


VA panels give you good viewing angles and better blacks and contrast than either TN or IPS panels. Their response times looks good on paper, but unfortunately not in the real world.
