Product Features

The Omron HEM 7120 is one of the older and higher selling BP monitors in the market. It is extremely light weighing just 250 gms and quite sleek with dimensions of 103 x 80 x 129 mm. This makes the device quite portable. The display size is an adequate 59mm x 43mm. The arm cuff fits upper arms that range from 22 – 32 cms. “Intellisense” technology embedded in the device automatically controls inflation of the arm cuff during blood pressure measurement.  The HEM 7120 is able to store only the last blood pressure reading. Flashing of the heart beat symbol on the display indicates a blood pressure out of recommended range and activation of irregular heart beat symbol on the display indicates irregular heart beats. A doctor’s visit is recommended in both cases. The device comes with a 1 year manufacturer warranty from date of purchase.

Advantages
  1. High build quality with pressure sensor manufactured in Japan ensures durability.
  2. Excellent battery life even with regular use.
  3. Economical, portable and easy to use
  4. Quick readings when instructions in manual are followed
Disadvantages
  1. A power adapter is not included with the product and must be purchased separately.
  2. Not useful for individuals with larger arms/ biceps unless larger cuffs are purchased separately.
  3. Inaccurate measurements were reported by a section of users in some online portals.
  4. Since Omron HEM 7120 is based on oscillometric principle, it cannot match the accuracy of hospital grade sphygmomanometer.

Summary

The Omron HEM-7120 is a no frills device that is light on the wallet and aims to allow a lay person to measure their own blood pressure. While it does not match the accuracy of a sphygmomanometer, it allows you to get a ball park sense of your blood pressure and in turn the state of your health. That in our minds is the main function of the Omron HEM-7120 and in that it succeeds. We recommend this product for those on a budget that don’t need to store their older readings.
